Lakewood Ranks in Best US Neighborhoods
In a study comparing the best big-city neighborhoods in the US, Lakewood came out in the Top 10. Factors included home prices, crime rates and quality of life offerings such as parks and shopping centers. The CNN Money report identified the amenities at White Rock Lake and the historic Lakewood Theater as contributing to Lakewood’s appeal. The neighborhood also has low crime, excellent elementary schools, a median household income of $116,400. The median home value of $392,900 is reasonably low enough to attract young professionals and families and the other amenities add to the appeal.
The Heights in Houston ranked fourth in the country, and Alamo Heights in San Antonio ranked seventh. New York City’s Park Slope neighborhood took the first spot, with Silver Lake in Los Angeles and Lakeview in Chicago rounding out the top three. Lakewood ranked ninth.
