Work begins on Knox Street mixed-use project
Three retail buildings just south of Knox Street in Dallas will become the site of a new retail and residential tower at 4501 Cole Avenue.
The 8-story Lincoln Knox building will include a Trader Joe’s grocery store and other retail, and 165 luxury rental apartments.
The project is being developed by Dallas’ Sarofim Realty Partners and Lincoln Property Co. Sarofim is also developing another Knox district project, partnering with Mill Creek Residential Trust on an apartment community just north of Knox on North Central Expressway.
Richardson-based contractor Hill & Wilkinson is constructing the $38.6 million project.
The development replaces the old Ed Kellum & Son appliance retail location and two Lomardi Family restaurants. The restaurant building at the corner of Armstrong Avenue was built in 1920 as a church then became the thriving Old Church bar and restaurant in the 1970s.
The new mixed-use tower is a continuation of the Knox Street District’s developing upscale, walkable neighborhood. Construction began in February and will complete in September 2015.
