Dallas officials open newly named MoneyGram Soccer Park with a kick

The creation of a 120-acre soccer complex off Walnut Hill Lane and Stemmons Freeway began with the 1998 bond election. The city used $13.2 million from that election to start land acquisition, then a bit more in the 2003 and 2006 bond programs. The $31.4-million complex has 19 full-length soccer fields and five junior fields.

Cristened MoneyGram Soccer Park, it’s expected to host 1 million visitors annually, and will be managed by FC Dallas, the Major League Soccer team based in Frisco. Parks officials took pains to give the fields top-notch turf and drainage, ensuring that tournaments should go off without any hitches. The Dr Pepper Dallas Cup, held April 13th, was the first major competition to be hosted on the new fields.
