The Park

The vision for The Park is to bring together the busting Uptown neighborhood with the newly opened Arts District which lies just accross the Woodall Rodgers Freeway, by building the deck park atop the freeway's existing canyon. The park will give the residents who choose to live in the most dense and most urban part of the city a unique opportunity for recreation. Included on the grounds of the 5.2 acre park will be a performance pavillion, cafe, childrens discovery garden and playground, botanical gardens, dog run, trails, and water features. Construction began in October 2009, with plans to finish the base park in early 2012 and finish-out the park amenities by the end of 2012.
Funding for the park has been a collaborative effort between the community ($20 million in private donations), the City ($20 million in bond funds), the state and federal government ($20 million in highway funds through TXDOT.) In March of 2009, $16.7 million of stimulas funds was awarded to the project.
